The Android lock screen has changed many times over the years. There are various open source systems out there, and OEMs have always thrown their weight behind things. It’s okay if you don’t want to. Here are the best lock screen apps for Android.

It’s important to note that lock screen apps are a dying breed. Most biometric unlocks go beyond a full screen lock, and most people don’t even look at it except to check notifications or the time. Also, almost all Android phones have an always-on feature that requires apps. We don’t see many developments in this mode and most of them are not as secure as the standard display. So we’ve put together this list of the best lock screen apps that are still in development, and a few favorites that may no longer be in development.
The Best Android Lock Screen Apps And Lock Screen Replacement Apps
AcDisplay is one of the most popular lock screen apps. Simulates the always-on lock screen on devices like the Moto X, Galaxy S8 and more. Users can play with notifications without opening the screen. It also has some special features. For example, you can set it to work only during certain hours to save battery. More and more devices with similar features are coming to the market. So we recommend AcDisplay only for those with older devices that don’t have this feature. Its last update was in 2015. I’m not sure if the developer is doing much with it. At least it’s free to download and play.
Always on AMOLED is not a lock screen, but simulates it. It basically mimics every aspect of the screen on most smartphones. The app displays things like the time, notifications, and the like. It also has features such as a timer function to prevent burns. The application can also initiate hibernation while driving. We only recommend it for devices with an OLED display, including Samsung’s AMOLED. It loses a lot of brightness from the LCD screen. We only recommend it for older devices that don’t always show up as original features. The original version almost always works better than other apps.
DIY Locker is a simple locker with simple ideas. With it, you can put, for example, a password or a sample code on the screen. However, it added the ability to organize those things and photos of the people you love. It also has support for notification widgets, music player and quick launch apps. It’s a bit uncertain if it will work for most users, but lock screen apps aren’t the big industry they used to be. However, it works for some people.
DIY Lock Screen is a Google Play developer with a very simple themed app lock app. They all work the same way. Sets the screen color when the phone is locked. They don’t offer much security, but you can add something like a 4-digit password for low security. The biggest draw here is the different themes you can go for. Honestly, you can probably find a wallpaper that works for this, but some themes look good. It’s not our first choice, but it’s one of the few joys left.

Floatify is a popular, modern way to lock screen apps. It actually looks like a screenshot. It is usually simple with the future tense. You can add, for example, weather information, notifications and other information. You can also select shortcuts at the bottom of the home screen. It also has other advanced features such as screen switching by holding the phone, themes and chat threads similar to Facebook Messenger. It’s actually a surprisingly good screen replacement. However, it hasn’t seen an update since late 2017, so we’re not sure if this is still in serious development.
KLCK is the developer of the popular KWGT Kustom and KLWP Live Wallpaper apps. Basically, this app allows you to create your own custom screen. It uses a simple editor with many features. You can add notifications, different backgrounds, your own graphics and backgrounds and much more. It also lets you add features like Google Fit news, weather, live maps, live music, and even an RSS feed. This feature even comes with Tasker support. It’s still in the early stages. So you can expect bugs. However, in 2018, if you’re looking for a custom screen, we recommend this one.
Lockscreen Widgets is one of the newest screen changer apps. In fact, it just brings back the old Android experience where you can place widgets on the screen. The app allows you to place one widget on a page and you can have multiple pages. This is perfect for those who want to know more about the lock screen and miss the feature of Android 5.0 Lollipop. The app is in early beta at the time of writing, but performed well in our testing. It costs $1.49 with no in-app purchases or ads.
Solo Locker is one of the best DIY screen lock apps. You get access to custom features and lock screen features. Now you can create your own screen the way you want. It comes with a variety of lock screens, wallpapers and widgets. You can use this to customize your display. You won’t find much depth here, but there are enough options to keep you entertained. The main app is free and you can purchase additional features through in-app purchases.

We talked about KLCK before the post and it’s good to make it your lock screen. However, there are plenty of KLCK themes in the play store that will do a lot of the work for you. Some examples include Liquify (link to button below), Evonix, S9 and many more. Some of the themes are similar to other devices and others are generally similar. Some like S9 also work with KLCK, KLWG and KLWP for better performance. They’re not specific lock screen apps, but they all work with KLCK and take a lot of the guesswork out of it. You can also search for other KLCK themes on Play Store.
Here it is, folks. Google has locked down much of the home screen functionality over the years with new versions of Android. Third-party replacement apps aren’t as powerful as they used to be, and you no longer have cool features like home screen widgets (and by extension DashClock widgets and similar apps). By locking, the screen saver can show you notifications, protect against intruders and whenever needed.
Unfortunately, screens are as shrunk as they come, so that’s about all you can do by switching these days. We recommend keeping the screen locked if you can, as other people’s options will quickly throw the mod off. In addition, as biometric solutions become more common, more and more people bypass the brake display with their fingers. Personally, we think it’s better this way.

Since Android doesn’t officially support lock widgets, we need the help of a third-party app. Note that this is a hack method, so it may not work properly. The app we are going to use is called “Lockscreen Widgets” and it costs $1.49.
After installing the application, you will be greeted with several introductory pages. The first thing you need to do is allow the app to access the lock screen. Click “More” and then “Enable” to enter the Android accessibility menu and enable it.
